Like most other Nokia smartphones, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is powered by the Symbian S60 operating system and this makes it very extensible as a lot of applications can be downloaded from the Internet. Furthermore, the 5530 runs Java applications like Google Maps and Opera Mini easily. This Nokia has a 2.9" touchscreen (360 x 640), 70Mb of user memory and supports microSD cards of up to 16Gb. It does not support 3G (only GPRS) but can be used over Wifi networks. It has a 3.15MP autofocus camera which can record videos up to 30fps. Being an XpressMusic smartphone, the 5530 is also a great multimedia device: is has a stereo FM radio, plays music and video really well on its classy screen. This Nokia 5530 is an excellent choice if budget is tight.

The HTC Hero is fantastic. It runs the Linux-based Android operating system developed by Google (a free upgrade to the recently released v2.0 is coming.) Being a Google phone, the Hero can access Google services (like Gmail, Docs, Maps) easily. The Hero is 3G, supports HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps, has a great capacitive multi-touchscreen and runs the beautiful Sense UI on top of Android. With its 288 MB of user memory, support for microSD cards, GPS, Bluetooth and Wifi capabilities, the Hero is very powerful and flexible. It runs Java applications, has a digital compass and plays any multimedia file thrown at it. It has a fantastic 5 MP autofocus camera as well. The HTC Hero is a hell of a smartphone and is more affordable than the competition. Get it.
