Nokia N8

Approximate price: Rs 17000

Finding a phone which do well in all fields is rare, and the N8 unfortunately proves it. Starting with its excelling abilities is the camera, its rare to find one that sports a 12MP (4000×3000 pixels) with autofocus and Xenon flash, but the bad news is that the video recorder isn’t on par with the top smartphones as it can only record in 1280×720 at 25 fps. Note that after installing the “n8 camera update” video recording in 30fps will be available. Concerning the CPU and amount of RAM, which is a 680 MHz ARM 11 and of 256 MB respectively, seems too little, well only if it was running Android, cause Symbian^3 OS (upgradable to Symbian Anna OS) runs swiftly on these specs. But still, for that price you would have expected a 1 GHz CPU and 512MB of RAM. The relatively low autonomy is the worst annoyance of this phone as it provides only about 400 hours in standby (top smartphones have +600h) and the battery cannot be manually replaced the user.

Sony Ericsson Cedar

Approximate price: Rs 2850

This candybar is probably the cheapest one with an HDSPA (7.2 MBps) internet connection you’ll find on the market today. And its perks doesn’t end there, the 2.2 inch screen and its internal memory of 280 MB (microSD slot still available) makes it even a better contender for best budget phone, but its 2 megapixel camera makes it vulnerable to competition against the 3.2 megapixel on the Nokia C2-01. Nevertheless, this phone has TrackID, a useful feature that tries to identify an unknown song playing from an external source.

Nokia N9

Approximate price: Rs 28,000

Cheaper and better than the iPhone 4 in many aspects, such as a better rear camera, larger screen size (but lower resolution) and twice storage and RAM, this smartphone is a best buy for those who have deep pockets. It does has the same CPU as the iPhone 4 (1 GHz Cortex A8), but as mentioned previously, the rear camera is a 8 MP one and can record videos in 720P. The screen size is of 3.9 inches and has a resolution of 480×854, the onboard storage (eMMC) is of 64 GB and the RAM of 1 GB. If you were looking for android on this phone move on because this one runs on MeeGo 1.2, a Debian-based Linux mobile operating system. As long as they don’t have dependencies, debian programs (.deb) should run be able to install and run. The disadvantages this smartphone are not very substantial but could have been avoided. Examples: Only a micro SIM card can fit in this phone, there’s no memory card slot, and the SGX530 GPU is older than the one in the iPhone 4.

Asus K52F

Approximate price: Rs 16,000

Except the price, there’s not much anything special in this 15.6″ laptop for users who want to entertain themselves with it, because it’s designed for people who are going to do office automation, browse the web and indulged in watching some videos, as the Intel GMA HD is very bad for gaming. So don’t buy this for kids, they’ll get bored easily. Concerning the CPU, the Intel P6100 clocked at 2 GHz, coupled with 2 GB of RAM, its widely capable of handling ten word of excel documents at the same time, provided you got rid of all the Asus bloatware installed on the 320GB hard disk, that runs in the background on the included Windows 7 starter.
