Philips 32PFL3409

Approximate price:
Rs 16,990.00

A basic LCD TV should be HD Ready (having a resolution of 1280 x 720), have a screen of at least 32" and should provide jacks for people to plug in their existing equipment (Antenna, TNT, Satellite, DVD...) The Philips 32PFL3409 has a 32" screen which sports a resolution of 1366 x 768 (which means that it also makes a great computer monitor) as well as a 24p cinema mode when using Blu-Ray. The 32PFL3409 is great as it has two HDMI, two component, two composite and one PC inputs (that's seven distinct video inputs!) It also has an audio output for connection to a Hifi system for better and louder home cinema sound. But, wait, there is more: the Philips 32PFL3409 does all this for under Rs 17,000. Highly recommended then!

Sony Bravia KLV-40S550A

Approximate price:
Rs 40,135.00

The KLV-40S550A is basically a great LCD TV: it is 40", is 24p, is Full HD (1920 x 1080) and has a Bravia Engine 3 processor (which means that it can display standard definition signals like TNT/Satellite/DVD well enough.) The KLV-40S550A has a USB connector which can be used to play MP3 audio and MPEG1 video from, say, a pendrive. Connector wise, this LCD does not need to have an inferiority complex as it sports four HDMI, two component, two composite and one PC inputs. The KLV-40S550A lacks is a digital audio output but most sources (like DVD players) tend to have their own digital outs so it is not a big deal. To summarise, the Sony KLV-40S550A is big, flexible and affordable. Get it but be prepared to buy a Blu-Ray player (or a PS3) soon after...

Samsung UA46B7000

Approximate price:
Rs 100,000.00

The latest Samsung UA46B7000 is a beauty of a 46" Full HD TV. First of all, it uses white LEDs instead of fluorescent lights and, consequently, has better contrast and is thinner than an LCD TV. Second, it runs at 100Hz and it handles fast moving sequences (think football or action movies) really well. Third, it has wired and wireless networking (Wifi), accesses YouTube, plays audio and video files in various formats from the network (but does not, unfortunately, feature a web browser.) Connection wise, the Samsung has 4 HDMI, 2 USB, 1 DVI and 1 PC inputs (but only 1 component and 1 composite inputs.) If you have access to HD digital content (aka a Blu-Ray player or a HD game console) and you are rich, get the best. Get a Samsung UA46B7000.
